Here is another Sonic Frontier’s preamp that is well deserving of all the accolades it has received. Superbly built and a first rate sound for a preamp costing under $3,000. Although this is a 6922 tube based preamp, it does not sound too overly “tubey”. It may have the magical mid-range that is synonymous with a tube based preamp but it also has a lot of detail and bass. In fact, bass was robust, tight and fast. Details were sharp and well presented. No “murky” rims around the soundstage, just pinpoint placement of each musical notes. At its original $2,500 MSRP, it would easily rival any preamps costing up to $5,000 but under $700 now, it is a steal.
